AMC has cancelled The Killing after two seasons. Over the course of its run, the crime drama followed the events after the murder of a young Seattle girl, with each episode representing one day in the investigation. Thankfully for fans of the show, the murder was solved at the end of Season 2.

"After much deliberation, we've come to the difficult decision not to renew 'The Killing' for a third season," the network said in an issued statement. "AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast."

The historical drama, which is the highest rated show on the network, aired its second season finale back on March 30, 2012. Plans to end the popular show were partially influenced by the loss of actor Andy Whitfield, who played the original Spartacus.

The show's creator has said that the final season will run for 10 episodes and be titled Spartacus: War of the Damned. Production on Season 3 has already started, though no return date has been announced.

Fox has cancelled new drama Alcatraz, which premiered earlier this year in January as a mid-season replacement. The series got off to a solid start in the ratings, but viewership dropped off significantly over the course of its 13 episodes.
Here's the statement from HBO: "It is with heartbreak that executive producers David Milch and Michael Mann together with HBO have decided to cease all future production on the series LUCK.

"Safety is always of paramount concern. We maintained the highest safety standards throughout production, higher in fact than any protocols existing in horseracing anywhere with many fewer incidents than occur in racing or than befall horses normally in barns at night or pastures. While we maintained the highest safety standards possible, accidents unfortunately happen, and it is impossible to guarantee they won’t in the future. Accordingly, we have reached this difficult decision.

"We are immensely proud of this series, the writing, the acting, the filmmaking, the celebration of the culture of horses and everyone involved in its creation."

“The two of us loved this series, loved the cast, crew and writers. This has been a tremendous collaboration and one that we plan to continue in the future.”

Wednesday's news comes the day after the death of the third horse during production on the Dustin Hoffman/Nick Nolte drama. Despite its hefty hype and critical praise, Luck has been a ratings underperformer for the network, averaging about 625,000 total viewers per episode. The series, a passion project for racing fan Milch, was renewed for a second season immediately after its disappointing January premiere in order to fit production into the window between racing at Santa Anita.

Production on the sophomore season was under way Tuesday at the racetrack in Arcadia, Calif., when the third horse was injured. Dr. Gary Beck, a veterinarian from the California Horse Racing Board, was on hand and noted the horse was on her way back to the stall when she "reared, flipped over backward and struck her head on the ground."

Attending vet Heidi Agnic administered immediate aid, and it was determined that humane euthanasia was appropriate, Beck noted.

Tuesday's incident marked the third time a horse has been put down as part of Luck; two horses were injured and euthanized during production of season one.

HBO had been working closely with the American Humane Association and racing industry experts within the CHRB to implement safety protocols that go "above and beyond" typical film TV industry standards and practices, with prerace exams performed by a CHRB-certified vet with radiographs taken of the legs of all horses being considered for use in simulated racing sequences.

HBO's decision to cancel the drama comes after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals called late Tuesday for the production of the series to be shut down.

"HBO, David Milch and Michael Mann should be ashamed. Three horses have now died, and all the evidence we have gathered points to sloppy oversight, the use of unfit or injured horses and disregard for the treatment of racehorses," the animal-rights group said in a statement to THR.

"We contacted HBO and producer/star Dustin Hoffman last week regarding reports we'd received stating that oversight on the set was lax, and we urged them to help make things safer for the horses. But we received no response. Yesterday, we went to law enforcement about the deaths of the first two horses, Outlaw Yodeler and Marc's Shadow, because one was drugged and the other was arthritic. We will want answers on HBO's latest casualty. Filming must stop now."

On Wednesday evening, PETA issued a response praising HBO's decision to stop production on Luck.

"Knowing that old, unfit and drugged horses were forced to race for this series, PETA is glad that HBO has finally decided to cancel the show. We thank the whistleblowers who refused to let these horses' deaths go unnoticed. Should Milch, Mann and HBO decide to start the series up again, PETA will be calling on them, as we have done from the start, to use stock racing footage instead of endangering horses for entertainment purposes. PETA has called on law enforcement to investigate the deaths of the horses used on the set and to bring charges as appropriate," read the organization's statement.

Fox has decided not to proceed with a second season of science fiction series Terra Nova, effectively canceling the struggling show. 20th Century Fox studios, which produces the series, is keeping a small amount of hope alive by attempting to shop it to other networks, but chances of a pick-up appear slim at this point.

Terra Nova's cancellation was somewhat expected, given its mediocre ratings and hefty production costs. Fox has also recently filled up its roster of dramas with new high profile shows Alcatraz and Touch, which they expect will outperform the cancelled dinosaur drama.

If only Allison had seen this coming: CBS has cut 'Medium's' season 7 episode order to 13 episodes. Is this it for Allison DuBois? According to Deadline Hollywood, CBS has not canceled the Patricia Arquette series -- yet. Its keeping all options open.

The series about a mom of three who can speak to the dead has done well in syndication on Lifetime and is averaging more than 6 million viewers on Fridays at 8PM.

This isn't the first time 'Medium' has faced danger. The series originated on NBC, but was almost perpetually on the bubble. Its last season on NBC averaged 8.45 million viewers.

When NBC canceled it, CBS scooped it up and paired it with 'Ghost Whisperer' on Fridays. During season 6, 'Medium' aired Fridays at 9PM ET and averaged 7.79 million viewers.

CBS played a similar game with 'Numb3rs,' another Friday drama. The network cut its episode order to 13 before canceling it last May.

Once the 13 episodes of 'Medium' are finished, creator Glenn Gordon Caron will remain at CBS as part of a development deal.

Source: http://www.tvsquad.c...celed-season-7/

The news was confirmed on Twitter by co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed. “ABC gave us the word,” she tweeted. “We will only make 13 episodes of The Whole Truth.” The drama only averaged 5.3 million viewers (ranked No. 69 among all primetime shows) and a 1.5 rating/4 share among adults 18-49 (ranked No. 72). It’s unclear how many of Truth‘s remaining unaired episodes will see the light of day; an original episode is still scheduled to air on Wednesday. ABC already announced a Plan B scenario for the timeslot that will begin Nov. 3 with In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville. The special will feature the Good Morning America anchor interviewing some of country music’s biggest stars. On Nov 10., ABC will preempt all of its Wednesday programming for the Country Music Awards. Earlier today, ABC extended full-season orders to fellow rookies No Ordinary Family and Better With You.

Source: http://ausiellofiles...uth/#more-12052

CBS continues its successful Friday streak -- led by the just canceled "Medium," which experienced a slight raise in the ratings this week. Also notable was NBC's TV Movie "Harmony: A Film Inspired by the Prince of Wales," which debuted to mediocre ratings despite the current renewed interest in the Royals' personal lives.

CBS averaged 9.6 million viewers and took a 6.1 rating/11 share of households for the night. ABC was second with 5.3 million and a 3.5/6. NBC came in third (4.0 million, 2.7/5). FOX was in fourth (3.0 million, 1.8/3) and the CW came in fifth (2.3 million, 1.4/3).

ABC bested CBS with a 1.6 in the key demo. CBS (1.5), The CW (1.0), NBC (0.9) and FOX (0.9) followed.
