USA Network announced today that Shooter has been renewed for a third season. The good news comes just days following star Ryan Phillippe's own announcement that he has now fully recovered from an injury this past summer that ended up shortening the sniper drama's sophomore run.

It was back in July that fans learned of Phillippe breaking a leg in an off-set mishap while the show was in the midst of production. It was during shooting of the ninth episode that the accident occurred, resulting in the season being capped at eight episodes rather than its original order of 10.

That incident was just the latest obstacle that Shooter has overcome. Before the series even premiered last November it was met with multiple delays. Orginally slated as a summer entry, its debut was initially pushed back twice due to tragic real-life shootings, resulting in the cable network scrapping its summer release plans altogether, opting to focus instead on a fall premiere.

The show proved that it can weather adversity, though, as it went on to become USA Network's #1 new series in 2016. That was backed up with another solid run in Season 2. And despite Phillippe's season-shortening injury, Season 3 is now a go with a reported 13-episode order, which would make it its longest season yet.

Based on novels by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 film of the same name, Shooter follows the life of Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman trained in counter intelligence who is now living in exile. After learning of a plot to kill the president, the highly-decorated sniper re-emerges for duty, only to learn he has been double-crossed in an operation that has ties to his past.

Netflix today made official what most everybody already knew: Stranger Things has been renewed for a third season. The news really comes as no surprise given that the series is one of the hottest properties out there right now, easily ranking as one of pop culture's most-talked about TV shows.

The 1980s-themed horror/mystery drama burst onto the scene last year and wasted no time in amassing a huge following backed up by plenty of critical praise and awards. There have been no details announced yet regarding Season 3 in terms of returning cast members or storyline. While no premiere date is known either, a late-2018 return appears likely.

USA Network announced today that Mr. Robot has been renewed for a fourth season. The good news comes ahead of tonight's Season 3 finale and just days after star Christian Slater picked up his third Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actor in a TV series.

The perennially low-rated drama has continued to impress both critics and its core fan base across all three of its seasons. Despite its small audience, USA Network obviously sees value in sticking with such a highly-regarded series that always seems to be included in the conversation around most television-related awards shows.

Mr. Robot follows a young, anti-social programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer during the day but spends his nights as a vigilante hacker. He finds himself in a quandary when the anarchist leader of an underground hacker group recruits him to take down the powerful corporations that he believes are running, and ruining, the world.

There is no word yet on a premiere date for Season 4, but a late 2018 return appears likely. Earlier today, series creator Sam Esmail took to his Instagram account to announce that the writers' room has officially opened for next season.

CBS gave out some good news to Man With A Plan today, topping up its Season 2 episode count by nine to make it a full season of 22. The comedy premiered last fall as Matt LeBlanc's first return to network television since his career-making turn as Joey Tribbiani on Friends and its subsequent spin-off Joey.

The half-hour series had a fairly solid premiere season, and while its first half had a better showing than its second, it established itself as a reliable performer on Monday nights. We're just two episodes into its sophomore run, and its ratings are so-far about the same as where it left off last season.

Man With A Plan stars LeBlanc as a married man with three young children. His work as a contractor has seen his wife taking on most of the child-rearing responsibilities, but when she decides to go back to work, he must adjust to his new role as a stay-at-home dad.

It is being reported that CBS has topped up the episode count for Elementary's sixth season, ordering an additional eight episodes to bring its total up to 21. The good news comes ahead of its season premiere, which has not yet been scheduled by the network. The series was left off of the CBS fall schedule this season for the first time in its history, but today's episode increase should see it start sooner than later.

The veteran drama was first picked up for Season 6 back in May, receiving the late renewal after its name was originally left out of talks in March when there was more renewal activity. The pickup follows the drama's Season 8 premiere this past Sunday, which once again delivered impressive numbers with 1.86 million viewers (Live+same day). On top of that, the episode was actually its second-best rated premiere in its near-seven-year history.

The cable network's longest-running series, Shamelesscontinues to be creatively strong and draw solid, consistent viewership. The show also attracts a young-skewing audience, which is another big plus for such a long-running series.

Fox announced today that The Orville will be returning for a second season. Created by Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane, the hour-long space dramedy premiered in early September and is off to a strong start for the network through seven episodes.

The show got a nice push for its premiere, with its first two episodes airing in a special Sunday slot following heavily-viewed NFL games. Its subsequent move to its regular Thursday night time slot saw an inevitable drop in viewership, but it has remained a solid performer, with its last two episodes experiencing week-over-week ratings growth after hitting a season-low three weeks ago.

Taking inspiration from Star Trek, The Orville takes place 400 years in the future, when Earth is just a small part of an advanced and mostly-peaceful Planetary Union. The U.S.S. Orville is a mid-level exploratory vessel with a human and alien crew led by rookie officer Ed Mercer, who is played by MacFarlane. Determined to prove his worth despite his First Officer being his ex-wife, Ed leads his crew as they face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar workplace problems.

The show has six episodes remaining in its 13-episode first season, with a new episode airing tonight. As for Season 2, no details are known on episode count but look for a return in the fall.

Netflix announced today that House of Cards will be coming to an end after its upcoming sixth season. The news comes in the wake of recent claims against star Kevin Spacey, who is being accused of a 1986 incident of unwanted sexual advances against then-14-year-old actor Anthony Rapp.

Showtime announced today that Ray Donovan has been picked up for a sixth season. The veteran drama has remained a solid performer for the cable network, drawing continued critical acclaim and ranking as one of its top dramas with an average of almost 5 million weekly viewers across its various delivery platforms.

The series stars Liev Schreiber as the titular character who does the dirty work for some of Los Angeles' most-powerful figures. As their go-to guy, he makes the problems of the city's elite celebrities, athletes, and businessmen disappear.

CBS Interactive announced today that Star Trek: Discovery will be returning for a second season. The good news comes after CBS All Access reported that the new entry in the storied franchise has been performing well on the platform, where it has driven subscriber growth with record sign-ups in a single day, week, and month.

It has been two years since Star Trek: Discovery was originally announced, and it has been a bumpy road from then until the show was finally able to make its much-anticipated debut last month. On top of taking the time to ensure it would live up to the expectations of a new entry in the Star Trek franchise, the big-budget production was met with multiple delays and even a showrunner change during that time.

The efforts appear to have paid off, though, as critical and audience response from the show's first six episodes has been mostly positive. The franchise's built-in fan base has also undoubtedly-helped ensure a large amount of global interest in the series.

Taking place 10 years before the events of the original Star Trekseries, Star Trek: Discovery follows a brand new crew on a new ship as they take on missions to discover new worlds and lifeforms during the Federation-Klingon war.

Three episodes remain in the first chapter of Season 1, with the remaining six episodes slated to air early next year. As for Season 2, a time frame has yet to be set, though early-to-mid 2019 appears a likely scenario for its return.

CBS announced this evening that freshman thriller Salvation has been renewed for a second season. The good news comes after a 13-episode summer run that, while only garnering so-so ratings, did draw fairly consistent viewership for the network on Wednesday nights.

The series follows the events following the discovery of an enormous asteroid that is only six months away from colliding with Earth. An MIT grad student teams up with a tech billionaire to try to save humanity from the potentially-catastrophic event.

Another 13 episodes have been ordered for Season 2 of Salvation, which will return in the summer of 2018.

History announced today that Vikings has been renewed for a sixth season. The pickup comes as no surprise, as the veteran drama remains one of the cable network's strongest originals.

In its fourth season, which concluded earlier this year, the series averaged 7.8 million viewers per episode across all delivery platforms. It also held its spot as one of ad-supported cable's Top 5 dramas, with strong viewership in key demographics.

Inspired by the epic sagas about the trading and exploring Norsemen of early medieval Scandinavia, the Irish/Canadian co-production focuses on legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lodbrok, who was known for raiding France and England with his longships, and eventually becoming the king of Denmark and Sweden.

Today's good news comes over 2 months in advance of the Season 5 premiere, which is scheduled for November 29. Like Season 4, Seasons 5 and 6 of Vikings will both be comprised of 20 episodes apiece.

Production on Season 6 will kick off this fall in Ireland, with a likely premiere not until late 2018 or early 2019.

Ahead of tonight's third-season finale of Killjoys, Syfy has announced that the space drama has been renewed for seasons 4 and 5. There is a caveat though, and it is that those two seasons will act as final chapters to end the series.

The Canadian-based show, which follows interplanetary bounty hunters chasing fugitives throughout a distant planetary system on the brink of a bloody class war, will have a total of 20 more episodes before it signs off for good. The advanced notice gives producers a chance to end the story on their own terms, which is always preferable to facing a sudden cancellation.

Look for Season 4 of Killjoys to premiere in 2018, with the fifth and final season on target for 2019.

In keeping tradition with last year, during today's San Diego Comic-Con panel for Wynonna Earp, it was announced that the show has been picked up for a third season. The Canadian-American production, which was adapted from Beau Smith's comic book series, follows the great granddaughter of Wyatt Earp fighting to bring demons and other paranormal beings to justice.

HBO announced today that Silicon Valley has been renewed for a fifth season. The good news comes one month ahead of the veteran comedy's fourth-season finale on June 25. Created by Mike Judge, the half-hour series boasts a solid fanbase along with multiple award wins over the years.

Partially inspired by Judge's experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the late '80s, the comedy follows the lives of a group of high tech workers in the Palo Alto area of California. While this group of social outcasts may be the most qualified to succeed in this modern environment, they are not necessarily capable of handling the success.

Look for Season 5 of Silicon Valley in 2018.

HBO announced today that Veep has been renewed for a seventh season. The good news comes one month ahead of the veteran comedy's sixth-season finale on June 25, which wraps its first season under new showrunner Dave Mandel.

The veteran Julia Louis-Dreyfus series continues to be a strong performer for the cable network, maintaining healthy viewership numbers and garnering critical acclaim including an Emmy Award win last year for best comedy series.

Look for Season 7 of Veep in 2018.

NBC announced today that Trial & Error has been renewed for a second season. The comedy premiered this past March, where it garnered generally positive reviews and fared reasonably well ratings-wise as a mid-season performer.

Shot in a mockumentary style, the half-hour series follows an eager New York City lawyer sent to a small Southern town for his first big case. After settling into his makeshift office behind a taxidermy shop, it soon becomes apparent that winning his first big case will not be as easy as he thought, especially when his client has a way of making himself look guilty.

The network has ordered 10 new episodes for Season 2 of Trial & Error, down slightly from the 13 it aired in Season 1. With the main court case its first season all wrapped up, a brand new case will be forthcoming in its sophomore run, which will return in the midseason of 2017-2018.

There is some good news to announce for Quantico fans this evening, as ABC has renewed the drama for a third season. The show was sitting firmly on the bubble as of late due to its ratings taking a hit during its sophomore run.

Season 3 will come with a couple of changes in the form of a new showrunner as well a lowered episode count. Creator Josh Safran will be stepping away from the series going forward, with a replacement at the helm to be named at a later date. He will reportedly still be available as a consultant.

As for the number of episodes, ABC has ordered 13 for 2017-2018, down from the 22 the show received in Seasons 1 and 2.

Quantico came onto the scene in 2015 with successful debut run and quickly became the #1 broadcast series on Sunday nights among adults 18-49. Its buzz quieted down somewhat by the end of its first season, but its numbers still warranted a sophomore pickup. Season 2 saw its viewership slip further, and a move from Sundays to Mondays did little to change its fortunes. Still, the series will be back for at least one more season with a likely premiere in the fall.

It was announced today that Fox has renewed New Girl for a seventh and final season. The Zooey Deschanel-led comedy has had a successful run for the network, first as a breakout hit in 2011 and then as a reliable utility player during its later years, where it still managed to rank as Fox's highest-rated live-action comedy.

Knowing the end was certainly happening sooner than later, showrunners smartly wrapped up Season 6 in a way that could serve as a series ender if need be. But with today's pickup for 2017-2018, the show now has eight last episodes to properly conclude the series.

It's better late than never for Elementary. It is being reported that CBS has renewed the veteran drama for a sixth season. There had been speculation the network might be ending the series after it was left out of renewal talks back in March.

While its ratings have dipped in recent years, Elementary has been an overall reliable entry in the network's Sunday night lineup. The fact that it is wholly owned by CBS likely helped secure its pickup for the 2017-2018 season, as it is said to continue to do well financially.

In a surprise reversal of decision, NBC has decided to renew Timeless for a second season. The move comes just three days after the network originally cancelled the series to the dismay of the show's fans who were left with a season-ending cliffhanger back in February.

Co-creator Eric Kripke spread the good news on Twitter this morning, writing:

"The #TimeTeam went back 3 days, and changed history. @nbc picked us up for 10 episodes. Seriously. Airs next summer. #TimelessRenewed".

He followed that up minutes later with an update:

"Correction. Info moving fast. We're airing sometime in 2018, not sure when. But we're airing! #ResuscitateTimeless"

Timeless premiered last fall as part of NBC's fall line-up with a lot of momentum behind it. Created by two veteran producers, the series was given a high profile time slot airing after The Voice on Monday nights with heavy promotion, and received high critical praise from early reviews. While its premiere episode got off to a solid start, ratings slipped in subsequent weeks leaving only a limited audience who kept tuning in.

That audience, it turns out, was quite vocal when it was announced that the show would not be returning for a second season. So much so that the series was at the top of USA Today's "Save Our Shows" poll. That reaction seems to have swayed the powers that be to change their minds, resulting in today's pickup.

AMC announced today that The Son has been renewed for a second season. The western drama premiered last month as a Saturday night entry for the cable network, where it has averaged a respectable 2.3 million viewers when factoring in delayed viewing.

AMC has ordered another 10 episodes for Season 2 of the series, matching its freshman count, for an expected return in mid-2018.

Based on the 2013 Phillipp Meyer novel of the same name, The Son is a multi-generational saga that follows the McCullough family through two concurrent time periods. The first takes place in 1849, where a young Eli McCullough is kidnapped and indoctrinated into a tribe of Comanches. The other is set 60 years later, where Eli is now the grown, charismatic patriarch of the McCullough clan. Eli applies his brutal Comanche worldviews in his dealings while struggling to maintain his family's cattle empire during the turbulent Bandit Wars of South Texas.

It is being reported that The Exorcist has been renewed by Fox for a second season. The novel-based drama premiered last September with a 10-episode run, which is shorter than the typical length of fall series. While a little soft in the ratings, the series found a consistent audience on Friday nights.

Based on the 1971 novel of the same name, The Exorcist follows two very different priests - Father Tomas Ortega, who is the new face of the Catholic Church, and Father Marcus Brennan, a modern-day Templar Knight raised by the Vatican since childhood. Caught in the middle is the Rance family, who are members of Father Tomas' parish. With a demonic presence in their house appearing to grow stronger each day, they appeal to Father Tomas for help, which sets the naïve priest on a collision course with Father Marcus.

Fox announced today that Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for a fifth season. The half-hour series, which stars Saturday Night Live alum Andy Samberg, continues to be a reliable comedy for the network, garnering steady viewership and its share of critical praise, with multiple award wins including two Golden Globes.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows the offbeat group of detectives and staff at the 99th precinct of the NYPD. The eclectic squad is led by Jake Peralta, a talented but immature detective whose carefree style clashes with his stern, by-the-books captain.

Look for Season 5 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine this fall.

ABC has renewed Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a fifth season. Fox announced today that Batman prequel Gotham has been renewed for a fourth season. The DC Comics-based drama, which follows the beginnings of the infamous city and all of its villains and vigilantes, has been one of the network's top series in recent years.

The Monday night staple has continued to be a solid performer in the 8:00pm time slot, delivering an average of over 5 million viewers and a healthy rating among the key adults 18-49 demographic. Look for Season 4 to return this fall as part of Fox's 2017-2018 lineup.

The CW announced late today that The Originals will be returning for a fifth season. The veteran drama, which got its start as a spin-off of the recently-concluded The Vampire Diaries, will be returning for the 2017-2018 television season.

While never the breakout hit that its predecessor once was, The Originals has been able to draw a consistent level of viewership over the course of its run. Its move to Fridays a year ago managed to improve the network's performance for that night of the week.

The series follows Klaus from The Vampire Diaries and his clan, who are part of the original vampire family in New Orleans. One thousand years after they pledged to always remain together, family bonds are starting to break. With the passing of time, tensions have risen and tragedy has taken its toll, with the hunger for power corrupting its members.
