Fox announced today that its newest drama Empire has been renewed for a second season. The freshman series, which premiered earlier this month, is off to an impressive start for the network. Its premiere episode on January 7 topped the night with a 3.8 rating in the adults 18-49 demo, and its second episode built on that with a 4.0. While still early, it's clear that Fox has a potential hit on its hands. If the show's numbers continue to be this strong, Empire will not only be the top new series of the season, but also one of the top-rated broadcast shows on television. Epix announced today that Pennyworth has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes a month after the drama wrapped its freshman run, which was a successful one for the cable network. Per Epix, the series was the best-performing original to ever premiere on the network, with over double the viewership of any other show before it. Reviews have leaned positive as well, with critics noting that it stands on its own as a thriller while not necessarily adding to the DC Universe mythos in which the character originated. Taking place in 1960s London, the series follows former British SAS soldier Alfred Pennyworth, who forms a security company with b…

This season's Christmas episode, "Abed's Unstoppable Christmas," which debuts on Dec. 9 at 8 p.m., looks like it might be the most ambitious homage yet, as most of the episode will be done in the stop-motion animated style of Rankin-Bass holiday classics like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Ever since I heard about the idea, I've been looking forward to seeing how Abed, Troy, Annie, Jeff and company look like in the style, and now I know - and I am pleased. After the jump, here's an early look at how the group will look on Dec. 9: Source : http://www.hitfix.com/b....episode/ View full article

It is being reported that Fox has cancelled Proven Innocent after one season. The news comes one day after the legal drama aired its freshman finale, which will now act as its series-ender. The show premiered in February as a mid-season entry but never really gained any traction. Critical reception was decidedly mixed and it struggled to garner a sizable amount of viewers. Proven Innocent follows Madeline Scott, the head of an underdog criminal defence firm who is on a mission to set innocent people free, as she was once in the same situation. While she may be a hero to some, Madeline's bold tactics are not appreciated by Gore Bellows, the prosecutor who once se…

Word is out this evening that Fox has cancelled The Gifted after two seasons. The mutant drama, which concluded its sophomore run earlier this year, is the latest Marvel-based series to get the axe. The show premiered in 2017 and had a fairly strong debut outing. Reviews were generally positive and ratings were solid enough for it to rank as the #3 new drama of that season. And while critical reception remained strong in Season 2, ratings did slip considerably compared to what it brought in for Season 1. Combine that with the fact that Marvel-based fare has been dropping like flies in recent months, and today's cancellation did not come as a complete surprise. S…
