[imgleft] himym-cast-320.jpg[/imgleft] Ted's story of "How I Met Your Mother" will continue for at least another year.

CBS has given the comedy an early pickup for the 2010-11 season, the network confirms to Zap2it. The news comes on the heels of series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas signing a new deal with "HIMYM" producer 20th Century Fox TV, which secures their services for three more years and includes new development as well as the current show.

The early renewal is something of a changeup for "How I Met Your Mother," whose renewal has been left to the last minute more than once in its five-season life. The show, however, has earned solid ratings so far this season as the lead-off to CBS' Monday comedy block. It averages 8.9 million viewers (including repeats) and a 3.6 rating among adults 18-49; the latter number is among the top 40 shows on television for 2009-10.

The renewal also locks three of the Monday block's pieces into place for next season. "Two and a Half Men" and "The Big Bang Theory" are each in the midst of multi-year commitments.

"How I Met Your Mother" reached the 100-episode milestone earlier this month. In the episode, Ted (Josh Radnor) catching the first glimpse of his future mate -- he saw her foot as she disappeared into the bedroom of an apartment she shares with the woman Ted was dating (guest star Rachel Bilson).
