Amelia Earhart was an American aviation pioneer and author who disappeared with no trace while flying over the Atlantic in an attempt to circumnavigate the globe. She flew a Purdue-funded Lockheed Model 10 Electra airplane and prior to that was also the first woman to solo fly the Atlantic ocean. She disappeared July 2, 1937, at the age of 39.
