Netflix Renews 'The Punisher'

Netflix announced today that Marvel's The Punisher has been renewed for a second season. The action drama is the fifth original series on the streaming service based on a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe - sixth if you count the ensemble miniseries The Defenders.

The good news comes less than a month after the first season's release on November 17 and keeps the trend of Marvel series renewals alive. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will all be returning for Season 2, while the show that started it all - Daredevil - has already been picked up for Season 3.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as former Marine Frank Castle, who was originally introduced in the second season of Daredevilas a no-nonsense hero who deals out his own brand of justice. Known throughout New York City as The Punisher, Frank is out to find the criminals responsible for the murder of his family and uncover the truth about a military conspiracy that affects more than just those he loves.

No time frame has been announced for the return of The Punisher, but it could be a long wait if you look at its fellow Marvel series. Jessica Jones was renewed back in January 2016 and will not premiere its second season until March 2018. While Luke Cage was renewed late last year but has not yet set a release date for its return.
