Charles has asked a surveyor to find the most affordablelocation to quarry stone for the viaduct. But when Annie andJohnny discover that the quarry site is where the bodies ofHappy Jack and Skinny are buried, panic sets in. Surely ifthey move the coffins they will discover Red. Everything theythought was dead and buried now looks to come back and destroyeverything they have fought for. While Annie and Johnny do allthey can to keep George calm and prevent him from spillingtheir secret, the town is in outrage. They rally around Hattyand superstitions abound. Hatty, won over by the promise of adecent new head stone for Jack gives in to the inevitability ofthe exhumation and asks Annie to be at her side when the timecomes. Annie is going to have to keep it together in thetoughest of circumstances.
