  1. Boosting its meta quotient just a bit,"30 Rock" is up for 3 Golden Globes -- including nods for starsTina Fey and Alec Baldwin and best comedy -- despite the fact that a recent episode focuses on how easily swayed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is by attention and bribes. November's "Brooklyn Without Limits" features a storyline about Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) trying to earn a nomination for his film, "Hard to Watch," after an interview with a few members of the HFPA. This reminds Jenna (Jane Krakowski) of the time she tried to do it herself, when she starred in the Lifetime original movie "Sister, Can You Spare a Breast?" She tells him to invite th…

  2. ABC announced today that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been given an early pickup for a seventh season. The good news comes just six months after the drama was renewed for Season 6, which itself isn't due to air until 2019. The veteran series premiered in 2013 and is the longest-running show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At over 100 episodes, its lengthy run has been impressive and looks to continue for at least the next couple of years. Like most shows of this age, its current ratings leave a lot to be desired, but its core audience still tunes in in decent enough numbers to keep it going in its Friday night time slot, where it moved last season from i…

  3. It was announced today that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be coming to an end after its already-ordered seventh season. 6. [imgleft] [/imgleft] Last week, "How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris tweeted a photo of "American Idol" Carrie Underwood all dressed up as a retro stewardess for an upcoming episode of "How I Met Your Mother" and we could almost hear her saying, "What would you like? Coffee, tea or me?" Now, CBS has posted official photos from the upcoming episode and Underwood is '60s flight attendant perfection. The episode, "Hooked" has not been scheduled yet, although the show's creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas said earlier this month that is will likely air in March. Underwood's character, Tiffany, strikes Barney's (Harris) fancy. [imgleft] […

  8. [imgleft] [/imgleft]Two of the men who helped make "American Idol" the biggest show on television are in the news for other reasons. Simon Fuller, who created the "Idol" format, is leaving 19 Entertainment (which produces the series) to start his own company. Former "Idol" executive producer and current "So You Think You Can Dance" judge/producer Nigel Lythgoe has been named chairman of BAFTA's L.A. branch. Fuller had mounted an effort to buy 19's parent company, CKX, but instead opted to break off. He'll still consult with CKX, which has an option to invest in the new venture. "As an entrepreneur I feel I am about to enter my prime years, and starting a new ente…

  9. [imgleft] [/imgleft] "American Idol" auditions head to the Windy City, and let's hope the singers do our president and Oprah proud. The city's musical heritage includes blues, soul, jazz and gospel, and more recently has been the scene for house music, hip-hop, indie and alternative rock. You may recognize some of these Chi-Town musicians and bands: Earth Wind and Fire, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lou Rawls, Liz Phair, Rise Against, Common, Da Brat, Fall Out Boy, the Plain White T's and oh, an Oscar winner named Jennifer Hudson. Check out this great video from the Chicago Tribune, previewing the talent that's auditioning in Chicago. What do you think? Will Chi…

The CW announced today that Arrow has been renewed for an eighth season. The long-running action drama is the network's longest-running superhero-based series, with its success helping pave the way for the likes of The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Once a flagship of The CW, Arrow's ratings have tapered off over the years. But at nearly 150 episodes, that is to be expected. And yet, it still draws fairly good numbers for the network compared to its other prime time entries. Yearly crossover episodes with fellow DC series also help boost its viewership. The CW has a total of five series on the air from the DC Comics universe. All four others were also picked up …

  15. CBS announced today that Blue Bloods has been picked up for a tenth season. The news comes with four episodes remaining in the police drama's current season, and coincides with star Tom Selleck signing a one-year deal to stay on with the show for 2019-2020. 16. Because it airs on Starz, a premium cable network, viewership for Boss was never going to be high. But the series managed to attract around half a million viewers (if that) throughout its first season. Compared to the 1.2 million viewers that Spartacus: Vengeance, another Starz series, averaged, Boss's viewership is paltry. Creator Farhad Safinia knows this fact, he informed reporters at the show's TCA panel on Thursday. "I am completely aware of what the numbers are and I'm heartbroken," he said. "There are so many great things about the show that I feel it deserves a larger audience." The series was renewed for a second season before the show even premiered, so fans o…

  18. Will Walter White (Bryan Cranston) escape his D.E.A. agent brother-in-law Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) or will his alternate identity as drug dealer Heisenberg fatally consume him? It promises to be an action-packed final stretch that requires a suitably epic poster. The first eight episodes of season five received the regal "All Hail the King" treatment, with Walt sitting on the throne of his meth empire. The newly released poster for the second half of the season is much more ominous and brooding. "REMEMBER MY NAME" Walt implores as he stands alone in the New Mexican desert, hands clenched into fists, a scowl on his face. It's a big turn from his massive monologue …

  19. NBC announced today that Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been picked up for a seventh season. The good news marks the first renewal of the cop comedy at the peacock network since being revived from cancellation last year. The half-hour series is currently seven episodes into its 18-episode sixth season, and so far things are looking good. Ratings to this point have been solid in its Thursday night time slot, and critical consensus is that the show hasn't missed a beat comedically since its return. 21. RIP Marv. On the special two-hour season finale of "Burn Notice" Thursday, Dec. 16 (beginning an hour earlier at 9 p.m. ET), Brennan (Jay Karnes) -- who was last seen in the back of a car with men who had just killed Marv (Richard Kind) -- is trying to put the pressure on Mike (Jeffrey Donovan) to take out some government agents. The wounds, they're still fresh, so Mike is really not happy with this request. But Brennan has the flash drive with the list of burners and is threatening to release some data. Hmm. You know what also sucks? Larry (Tim Matheson) is pro-killing too. Let's see how this argument plays out: ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"…

  22. [imgleft] [/imgleft] On "Caprica" the searches for Zoe and Tamara continue -- in two very different ways. "Ghosts of a Machine" gave glimpses into the origin of the human Cylon idea in its very early stage. Little does Daniel know, that will be the bane of his existence in years to come. The Hunt for Tamara: Joseph embarks on his journey to find his daughter Tamara with his new friend/private investigator Emmanuelle in New Cap City. His wardrobe has changed to emulate that of mens' fashion in the '50s in order to "camoflauge" himself with the rest of the citizens in the fake world. Their goal? To make their way across the city without dying. Sounds simple enough. To h…

The CW is firming up the episode counts of its new dramas today, and Charmed has received an order for nine additional episodes on top of its original 13 to bring its total to a full season's worth of 22. The rebooted drama premiered in mid-October and has been a decent performer in the network's newly-added Sunday night lineup of originals. Reviews have leaned positive as well, with critics liking its updated take on the original '90s series. Charmed follows sisters Mel and Maggie, whose worlds were shattered after the death of their mother. When they find out they have an older sister named Macy who their mother kept from them, the three sisters suddenly exhib…

  24. NBC announced today that Chicago Fire has been renewed for an eighth season. The original entry in the Chicago franchise will return for the 2019-2020 season along with spin-offs Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med - both also picked up today for the fall. On the air since 2012, Chicago Fire is the network's second-longest-running drama currently on the air. Its success paved the way for three spin-offs over the years, and while 2017's Chicago Justice only lasted one season, the remaining trio remains strong. In fact, the three shows together are currently enjoying their most-watched season ever. Chicago Fire follows the courageous men and women at Firehouse 51, home t…
