  5. It just felt a lot longer than those 190 minutes. A few hours ago yours truly wrote a post about Oscar hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway were very winning in the show's opening moments. Consider that opinion revised. Hathaway remained a lively presence throughout the show and had a funny musical number about a third of the way into the broadcast, but aside from a couple of moments after the opening, the choice of Franco as her co-host didn't play nearly as well as the academy probably was hoping. Franco is a very talented actor and has been fantastic in comedic roles on film. On live TV, though, his detached, isn't-this-ironic vibe came off more disinterested than hip.…

  6. Franco and Hathaway each have a movie out right now, Franco's "127 Hours" and Hathaway's "Love and Other Drugs." Both films have been getting good reviews. Franco has even been in the conversation for an Oscar nomination, while Hathaway is considered more of a long shot. It would certainly be a different way to go from last year's hosts of Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. But after our initial surprise, we found ourselves liking the idea. Franco would certainly be a breath of fresh air, while Hathaway has proven her comedic chops in movies like "The Princess Diaries" and "The Devil Wears Prada." Hathaway would be the first female host since Ellen DeGeneres in Feb. 2006 and …

Who’s your favorite Doctor? OK, it’s probably not Peter Capaldi, but he is the Doctor. Like any other Doctor he is very different, but not completely unlike all those that have come before him. He does indeed share traits with his predecessors; he’s still brilliant, still resourceful, and still energetic. And yes, he still has absolutely no dress sense what so ever. He is also loyal, steadfast, and absolutely determined to get to the truth. However, he does have a personality that is all his own, a style that sets him apart from other Doctors. This one has an accent that could curl your hair, looks physically older than most other Doctors, and has a bit of a mean streak.…

  14. For those who would give almost anything for a chance at superstardom, American Idol might be the entertainment industry's version of a Faustian bargain: Through 14 seasons, the very successful Fox show has exploited the fact that there are millions of singers who are willing to sign onerous deals for the chance to compete. But season 11 winner Phillip Phillips isn't going to let the deals he made as a precursor to his fame go unchallenged. On Jan. 22, Phillips lodged a bombshell petition with the California Labor Commissioner that asserts that Idol producer 19 Entertainment and its affiliated companies have "manipulated" him into accepting jobs since he hit it big. In a …

After first prefacing her comments by saying she didn't "want to become part of the public debate," she went on to say that she had never seen any behavior by Cosby to suggest there is any truth to the decades-old abuse allegations that have resurfaced in recent months. "Forget these women," Rashad said of the many women who have made claims in the media. "What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. An…
