CBS announced today that SEAL Team has been renewed for a second season. The early pickup comes with two episodes remaining in the military drama's freshman run, which has fared well on Wednesday nights in the 9:00pm time slot.
The series premiered as part of the network's fall lineup last September and quickly made its mark as a strong performer. It wasn't long before CBS topped up its order to 22 episodes, making it the season's first new drama to be given a full season. Continued consistent ratings over the months that followed resulted in today's decision to bring the show back for Season 2.
SEAL Team follows an elite unit of Navy SEALs that is composed of a tight-knit group of patriots with fearless dedication. Deployed on clandestine ops around the world, its members embark on these dangerous, high-stakes missions knowing the toll it takes on themselves and their families.
Look for Season 2 to premiere as part of CBS' 2018-2019 lineup this fall.

NBC announced today that the Will & Grace revival has received its second renewal since returning to television, for what will be the show's 11th season overall. The early pickup comes with two episodes remaining in its ninth season, ensuring the Emmy Award-winning comedy will be on the air for the foreseeable future.
The series wasted no time in picking up where it left off after returning to TV last fall. The revival has garnered praise for capturing the essence of the original series and being able to return to form without missing a beat. The show was even nominated for a 2018 Golden Globe Award in the Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy category.
Will & Grace originally premiered in 1998 and during its eight years on the air it became a staple in the peacock network's Must See TV comedy lineup on Thursday nights. Rumors of a revival first started when the cast reunited in the fall of 2016 for an online special urging Americans to vote in the upcoming presidential election. And while that was done without any involvement from NBC, it was enough for the network to start thinking about bringing the show back.
Today's Season 11 renewal is for 18 episodes that will premiere in the fall of the 2019-2020 season. As for Season 10, which returns this fall, its original order of 13 episodes has now been expanded to 18 as well.
  • The comedy revival receives another pickup.

USA Network announced today that The Sinner is being brought back for a second season. Originally billed as a limited series, the Jessica Biel-starring drama turned out to be a big hit for the cable network. And as has happened before with the likes of HBO's Big Little Lies and Fox's Wayward Pines, series planned for a single run that end up being successful are often renewed thanks to their strong performance.
The Sinner premiered last summer and immediately made its mark both critically and in the ratings. When all was said and done, the show ended up ranking as the top new cable series of 2017. There was also recognition by the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards. While not taking home any hardware, the show did receive two nominations from each.
The first season of The Sinner starred Biel as a young mother who, after being overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a shocking act of violence with apparently no reason behind it. When an investigator, played by Bill Pullman, becomes obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive, the two end up on a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.
Season 2 will follow Pullman's character on a new "why-dunnit" murder case. There is no word as to whether Biel's character will be a part of the new season, but if she is it will likely be in a much reduced capacity.
  • The well-received drama will return for Season 2.

It was announced today that Netflix has renewed Travelers for a third season. Show star Eric McCormack broke the news on his Twitter account, sharing word of the show's pickup with fans and also confirming that he will be directing the premiere episode.
The series debuted in late 2016 as a co-production with Showcase in Canada, which aired the first two seasons for viewers up north. For Season 3, however, Travelers will be airing exclusively on Netflix worldwide.
Taking place hundreds of years in the future, the show follows the last surviving humans who work to prevent a terrible future from taking place by sending their consciousness back in time to the 21st century. Known as travelers, they assume the lives of random people as they undertake high-stakes missions in order to save humanity.
Look for Season 3 of Travelers later this year.

Word is out this evening that TNT has cancelled The Librariansafter four seasons. Showrunner Dean Devlin took to Twitter with the news, posting that he will be attempting to find a new home for the movie-based series. The show aired its final episode just last month.
The adventure drama premiered on the cable network in 2014 as an expansion of its hit movie franchise, following an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library whose members dedicate their lives to protecting the world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around.
The reason for today's cancellation is unclear, as The Librarianswas a solid performer for the cable network over the course of its run. It was however, one of the last series still on the air from before Kevin Reilly became president of TNT. Since his arrival, Reilly has been taking the network's original programming in a different, more edgy, direction.
  • No Season 5 for the cable drama.

ABC announced today that The Good Doctor has been renewed for a second season. Since its premiere in the fall, the medical drama has gone on to become one of the breakout freshman entries of the 2017-2018 television season. Back in October, the show was the first new drama of the fall to earn a full-season pickup thanks to its strong start.
Airing Monday nights, the series has garnered acclaim from both critics and audiences alike. It regularly beats its 10:00pm competition, which is something that ABC has struggled with in years past with shows in that particular time slot. Viewership-wise, it ranks as the network's most-watched new series in over a decade, and star Freddie Highmore earned himself a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor last year.
The Good Doctor stars Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who leaves his quiet, country life behind to join the surgical unit at a renowned hospital in San Jose, California. Alone in his new surroundings and not able to form a personal connection with his peers, Dr. Murphy puts his extraordinary medical gifts to use in order to save lives and challenge his skeptical colleagues.
Look for Season 2 of The Good Doctor this fall.

ABC made it official today: Once Upon a Time is coming to an end after its current seventh season. The long-running fairy tale drama will be signing off after 155 episodes, which is an impressive feat for a serialized drama by today's standards.
The move to end the series does not come as a complete surprise, as the show underwent some significant retooling ahead of Season 7, including creative and casting changes as well as move to Fridays from its long-held Sunday night time slot. Considering the show's time on the air, the writing appeared to be on the wall for a conclusion in the near future.
Fans can look forward to Once Upon a Time's final stretch of episodes to return on March 2, with the series finale expected to air in May.

Confirmed to be returning are original stars Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, and Rick Hoffman, along with the newly joined Dulé Hill, who will be a regular going forward.

Syfy announced today that Happy! has been renewed for a second season. The new dramedy premiered late last year and has garnered fairly consistent viewership over the course of its eight-episode run. The good news comes just days before the season finale, which airs this Wednesday.
The series has been met with a warm reception from both viewers and critics, who have noted its accomplishments in translating the dark, gritty tone of the source material on which it is based.
Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name, Happy! stars Christopher Meloni as a corrupt ex-cop who now works as a hit man who spends his days intoxicated and adrift in a world of casual murder, meaningless sex, and betrayal. After a job goes awry, his life is forever altered by a small, relentlessly upbeat, imaginary blue winged horse, who is voiced by Patton Oswalt.

It is being reported that USA Network has cancelled Damnationafter one season. The period drama premiered last fall with a 10-episode run that concluded just last week. The move marks the cable network's first cancellation of 2018.
Set in the 1930s American heartland, the series follows a man disguising himself as a small town preacher as a means of starting a complete insurrection against the status quo. Unbeknownst to him, an industrialist tycoon has hired a professional strikebreaker to stop the uprising at all costs. But what those around them don't know is that these two men share a secret, bloody past.
Reviews of Damnation were mixed from both critics and viewers. Ultimately its ratings reflected that, as the show's modest audience turnout for its premiere episode tapered off significantly during the course of its run.
  • No Season 2 for the period drama.

Amazon announced today that The Tick has been picked up for a second season. The comic-based action comedy is midway through its freshman run, which released its first six episodes on Prime Video in August following the 2016 showing of its pilot.
The web giant's streaming service has ordered 10 new episodes for Season 2 of The Tick, which will kick off production later this year for a return in 2019.
Based on the comic book character of the same name, the half-hour show takes place in a world where superheroes are nothing new. When an accountant with mental health issues begins to suspect his city is owned by a seemingly-dead global super villain, he attempts to uncover the conspiracy. Teaming up with a nearly-invulnerable superhero in a blue costume named The Tick, they work together to combat crime and uncover the mysterious figure behind the city's underworld.
While it will be some time before the release of Season 2, fans still have six new Season 1 episodes to look forward to. Those will be released on February 23.

AMC announced today that The Walking Dead has been renewed for a ninth season. The good news comes during the show's winter break as fans await its return to see how the death of an original character will play out after they were bitten in last month's mid-season finale.
The post-apocalyptic zombie drama has continued rank as one of TV's top scripted series, though some plot elements in recent seasons have resulted in its audience numbers dropping off from the highs it experienced a few years back. Viewership in the current season is the lowest it has been since Season 2, though its average of over 8 million viewers per episode is still considered quite healthy.
A change in showrunner is being made for Season 9, as longtime writer Angela Kang will take over for Scott M. Gimple, who has been at the helm of the show for the past five seasons. Gimple will still be involved with series though, as he is taking the role of Chief Content Officer, overseeing both The Walking Dead and its spin-off Fear The Walking Dead.
Look for Season 9 of The Walking Dead this fall. For now, Season 8 is set to resume the back-half of its run on February 25.
  • The hit zombie drama will return with a new showrunner.

Hulu announced today that Marvel's Runaways has been renewed for a second season. The show premiered in November as the streaming service's first comic book-based original series with a 10-episode run that will conclude tomorrow night.
The series was created for TV by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the duo behind past hits such as Gossip Girl and The O.C. It marks their first venture both on a streaming-based platform as well as on comic book source material. Reception from fans and critics has been generally positive, with reviews noting the show's faithfulness to the comics and balanced storytelling.

CBS announced today that Young Sheldon has been renewed for a second season. The early pickup, which comes ahead of the network's presentation at TCA today, is really a no-brainer considering the comedy's solid performance so far during its freshman season.
Premiering back in September, the show's first episode made a splash by garnering an impressive 3.8 rating among adults 18-49 while netting a total of over 17 million viewers. It was just days later that CBS ordered a full season. Now 10 episodes into its run, the show's numbers continue to be solid airing after The Big Bang Theory on Thursday nights. Overall it ranks as the top new comedy of the season.
A spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon follows a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper growing up in East Texas. At a young age, his advanced mathematical and scientific mind isn't necessarily helpful when living in a town where football and church get all the attention. Vulnerable, gifted and naive, Sheldon is embarking on his awkward journey toward the man he will become.

It looks like The Mayor will not be up for re-election. ABC has pulled the freshman political comedy from its schedule ahead of its originally-planned return from holiday break on January 9. The move makes it the network's second cancelled series of the season, with Ten Days in the Valley being the other.
The sole new comedy on the network's 2017-2018 schedule, The Mayor struggled to find an audience during the majority of its run. Slotted in on Tuesday nights at 8:30pm following Black-ish, the series dropped a good number of viewers from its veteran lead-in. Through nine episodes, it ranks as ABC's lowest-rated comedy.
The Mayor followed a young rapper who decides to run for mayor of his California hometown as a publicity stunt to create some buzz to further his music career. The only problem is he actually wins. With his plan gone awry, he is tasked with helping his struggling city.
With the series now off the schedule, four episodes will be left unaired for the time being. It is unknown if ABC will burn them off at a later date. Taking the show's place on the schedule for now will be reruns of Modern Family until a permanent replacement is found.

Fox today officially renewed The Gifted for a second season. The announcement was made by the network during its segment at the winter TCA press tour. The series premiered in October as part of its fall lineup and has made a positive impression on both critics and fans.
On Monday nights the series has drawn fairly solid ratings through its first 11 episodes. While its numbers have slipped in a bit in recent weeks, the show still ranks as the Number 3 new drama of the 2017-2018 television season.
Set in Marvel's X-Men universe, The Gifted follows a family who learns that their kids possess mutant powers. And though the father is a district attorney, he is forced to take his family on the run from a hostile government and join up with an underground network of mutants in a fight to survive.
As The Gifted is structured as a limited-run series, only two episodes remain in its 13-episode first season. Those two episodes will air back-to-back as a two-hour season finale on Monday, January 15.
  • The Marvel mutant drama will return for Season 2.

HBO announced today that Game of Thrones will be returning for an eighth and final season. It has been well over a year since we learned that the cable network was planning to end the fantasy saga after Season 8, and now we have an official confirmation that the series will indeed be coming to a close.
HBO has ordered six episodes for the show's final run, which will not return until sometime in 2019. Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are among the writers and directors slated for the final season. Acclaimed director Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series in 2016, will also be returning behind the camera.
The adaptation of George R.R. Martin's fantasy drama has been a massive hit for HBO, and after eight seasons will be going out on top, as its ratings will surely be strong over its final six episodes. No premiere date has been set for Season 8, but it will be at least a year until we find out how the story will end.
  • The fantasy drama will conclude in 2019.

It is being reported that Epix has decided to cancel Graves after two seasons. The political comedy ended its sophomore run early this month, with the December 10 finale now serving as its series ender.
Graves starred veteran actor Nick Nolte as a former U.S. president who, 25 years after his two terms in office, sets out to right the wrongs of his administration and reclaim his legacy. The show aired a total of 20 episodes over the course of its run, receiving mixed reviews from critics.
The series premiered in 2016 as the cable network's first foray into original scripted comedy. With the series now over, that leaves Berlin Station and Get Shorty as its two remaining original programs. Both have already been renewed for new seasons in 2018.
  • No Season 3 for the Nick Nolte comedy.

Syfy announced today that Van Helsing has been renewed for a third season. The good news comes in the midst of the vampire hunting drama's sophomore run, which still has three episodes remaining before its conclusion early in the new year.

The cable network has ordered another 13 episodes for Season 3, matching the length of the show's first two seasons. Production will begin in early 2018 for a likely return later in the year. For now, new episodes are airing Thursday nights, with the current season finale scheduled for Thursday, January 4.

Netflix announced today that Marvel's The Punisher has been renewed for a second season. The action drama is the fifth original series on the streaming service based on a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe - sixth if you count the ensemble miniseries The Defenders.
The good news comes less than a month after the first season's release on November 17 and keeps the trend of Marvel series renewals alive. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will all be returning for Season 2, while the show that started it all - Daredevil - has already been picked up for Season 3.
The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as former Marine Frank Castle, who was originally introduced in the second season of Daredevilas a no-nonsense hero who deals out his own brand of justice. Known throughout New York City as The Punisher, Frank is out to find the criminals responsible for the murder of his family and uncover the truth about a military conspiracy that affects more than just those he loves.
No time frame has been announced for the return of The Punisher, but it could be a long wait if you look at its fellow Marvel series. Jessica Jones was renewed back in January 2016 and will not premiere its second season until March 2018. While Luke Cage was renewed late last year but has not yet set a release date for its return.

Netflix confirmed today that the upcoming sixth and final season of House of Cards will be going ahead without any involvement from Kevin Spacey. The already-ordered season appeared to be in jeopardy after its star had allegations of sexual misconduct levied against him, resulting in a suspension of production in late October.
With Spacey now removed from the veteran political drama, the final eight-episode season will proceed with Robin Wright in the lead - but it may be some time before its release. Production is not set to begin until sometime in 2018, which could mean a premiere either late in the year or even in 2019.
Premiering in 2013, House of Cards was the streaming service's first-ever original series, going on to garner heaps of critical acclaim and accolades for its strong performances and engrossing storytelling. While the series will be ending on a somewhat sour note, the final episodes will at least be able to give some closure to fans who stuck around from the beginning.
  • Production on Season 6 will not begin until next year.

USA Network announced today that Shooter has been renewed for a third season. The good news comes just days following star Ryan Phillippe's own announcement that he has now fully recovered from an injury this past summer that ended up shortening the sniper drama's sophomore run.
It was back in July that fans learned of Phillippe breaking a leg in an off-set mishap while the show was in the midst of production. It was during shooting of the ninth episode that the accident occurred, resulting in the season being capped at eight episodes rather than its original order of 10.
That incident was just the latest obstacle that Shooter has overcome. Before the series even premiered last November it was met with multiple delays. Orginally slated as a summer entry, its debut was initially pushed back twice due to tragic real-life shootings, resulting in the cable network scrapping its summer release plans altogether, opting to focus instead on a fall premiere.
The show proved that it can weather adversity, though, as it went on to become USA Network's #1 new series in 2016. That was backed up with another solid run in Season 2. And despite Phillippe's season-shortening injury, Season 3 is now a go with a reported 13-episode order, which would make it its longest season yet.
Based on novels by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 film of the same name, Shooter follows the life of Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman trained in counter intelligence who is now living in exile. After learning of a plot to kill the president, the highly-decorated sniper re-emerges for duty, only to learn he has been double-crossed in an operation that has ties to his past.

Netflix today made official what most everybody already knew: Stranger Things has been renewed for a third season. The news really comes as no surprise given that the series is one of the hottest properties out there right now, easily ranking as one of pop culture's most-talked about TV shows.
The 1980s-themed horror/mystery drama burst onto the scene last year and wasted no time in amassing a huge following backed up by plenty of critical praise and awards. Everything from its enthralling storytelling and immensely-likable characters to its creepy atmosphere and nostalgic references to old movies and televsion, really struck a chord with a wide range of viewers.
Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things takes place in Hawkins, Indiana with the town rattled by the disappearance of a 12-year-old boy that leads to a string of events ranging from an unknown supernatural force being unleashed to a mysterious girl that possesses psychokinetic abilities.
There have been no details announced yet regarding Season 3 in terms of returning cast members or storyline. While no premiere date is known either, a late-2018 return appears likely.
  • The massively-popular drama will return next year.

USA Network announced today that Mr. Robot has been renewed for a fourth season. The good news comes ahead of tonight's Season 3 finale and just days after star Christian Slater picked up his third Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actor in a TV series.
The perennially low-rated drama has continued to impress both critics and its core fan base across all three of its seasons. Despite its small audience, USA Network obviously sees value in sticking with such a highly-regarded series that always seems to be included in the conversation around most television-related awards shows.
Mr. Robot follows a young, anti-social programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer during the day but spends his nights as a vigilante hacker. He finds himself in a quandary when the anarchist leader of an underground hacker group recruits him to take down the powerful corporations that he believes are running, and ruining, the world.
There is no word yet on a premiere date for Season 4, but a late 2018 return appears likely. Earlier today, series creator Sam Esmail took to his Instagram account to announce that the writers' room has officially opened for next season.
  • The hacker drama will continue in 2018.
